Chamonix in Winter

Skiing and Snow Boarding
With the majority of the skiing above 1800 meters, Chamonix has a fantastic snow record. Whilst Chamonix's reputation is that of an extreme resort, there is however plenty of skiing for everyone to enjoy. Each of the ski areas has their own personality:
Le Tour - right at the top of the valley, this is a great place for beginners and experts alike. Le Tour has fantastic wide open, well groomed runs and some magical off piste, with beautiful views of Chamonix Valley and Switzerland.
Le Brevant - La Flegere - these two areas are linked and can be accessed by either La Flegere cable car (a five minute walk from the chalet) or the Brevant bubble. Set on the sunny side of the valley these areas get the sun the majority of the day, and facing Mont Blanc, the views are spectacular. Skiing is generally at an intermediate to advanced level here, with some easily accessible off piste, although in Flegere there are two great green runs for beginners.
Les Grand Montets has a reputation for extreme steep skiing, a beautiful day out with really stunning scenery and skiing, with some of the most extreme skiing in the valley available here, not an ideal place to take a novice.
Les Houches - at the bottom end of the valley the skiing here ranges from the fairly gentle to the more extreme Le Kandahar - the black run used for the men's downhill. (Les Houches is not included in the standard 6 day Cham Pass).
Vallee Blanche - this is a truly amazing day out, only to be tackled with a guide and only for those of a good skiing ability, taking the Aigulle du Midi to its highest point you will descend down the Vallee Blanche across the Mer de Glace for some 26 kms.

Ski Passes
There are various ski passes available. The most popular is the 6 day Cham'ski Pass which provides you with full use of the lift system, covering Le Tour, Les Grand Montets, Le Flegere and Brevent, in addition you have access to the Aigulle du Midi, Montenvers Train, and a days skiing in Courmayeur.

We will be happy to arrange your lift passes prior to arrival.

More information is available on the www.compagniedumontblanc.com web site.

Other Activities

Parapente / Paragliding
Whilst in Chamonix you will see many people taking to the sky to glide peacefully over the valley. Whilst this sport is weather dependant it is a truly amazing experience that can be enjoyed for the first time in a tandem jump.

For the Non Skiers
Chamonix offers plenty for the non skiers amongst you, a trip up the Aigulle du Midi gives you the most amazing view of Mont Blanc and across the glacier to Italy, and trip up the Montenvers Train takes you to the bottom of the Mer de Glace and the Ice Grotto.

A Helicopter tour gives you a bird's eye view of the valley and many of the mountain restaurants are accessible on foot allowing you to experience the breathtaking views. For those in need of refreshment or perhaps a more relaxed pace, the many cafes and bars in town provide great people watching opportunities.

Help and advice can be provided on all other mountain activities within the valley.

Chamonix in Summer

SunThe mountains are becoming an ever more popular choice for a summer vacation, with clean air and - breathtaking scenery it is easy to see why. In summer Chamonix is full of life with its many restaurants and cafes spilling out on to the pavement soaking up the beautiful sunshine. Other than the traditional activities of walking and climbing, the mountains offer much, much more.

Golf
Chamonix boasts an 18-hole championship golf course set in the village of Les Praz next to the Flegere Cable Car the course is just a 5 minute walk from the Chalet.

The golf course established during the 1930s's was designed by Robert Trent Jones originally opening as a four hole course the current 18 hole course was opened in 1982, allowing visitors to the town to play a round of golf whilst enjoying the fantastic views of the mountain ranges that surround the valley.

Tennis
A 10 minute walk along the riverside takes you directly to the Tennis Club which has 14 outdoor tennis courts and 2 indoor courts. As with all of the outdoor facilities of Chamonix you get to practice your chosen sport with an amazing backdrop, the clubhouse allows those not participating to sit and watch whilst enjoying a drink or a great meal from their restaurant.

Mountain Biking
A growing passion within the area with many of the ski lifts taking bikes up the mountain allowing some fantastic descents with many marked routes throughout the valley.

Sports Centre
Just further along the riverside from the Tennis Club is the Centre Sportif Richard Bozon which offers:

Swimming pools both indoors and outdoor swimming pools with children's activities (boys need to bring their speedos!!!!!! as males are not allowed into public swimmimng baths in France unless they are wearing proper swimming trunks, shorts are not permitted), ice rink, squash courts, gymnasium, climbing wall, sauna, hammam, and solarium.

Planards Leisure Park - on the edge of town this adventure park offers a whole range of activities to keep the children happy from trampolening, to a summer luge run to an adventure play ground

Plus:
In addition to the above there are many organisations that offer various activities from rafting, to hydrospeed, to horse riding, a tree adventure park, and various animal parks

Sight Seeing
Chamonix is based on the boarder of both Italy and Switzerland, and as such makes it an ideal base to visit many areas of interest, Geneva, Annecy can all be reached in approximately an hour whilst Milan, Chambery, Lyon and Grenoble are within a two hour drive

Children
A number of companies around Chamonix offer children's adventure clubs available either daily or on a weekly basis these clubs take children through a number of different activities from climbing, mountain biking to rafting - allowing Mum and Dad time to relax.
