Chalet Chez Bear is one of the few 5-Star luxury chalets in Serre Chevalier amd is hosted by owners Matthew and Helene who go out of their way to make your stay in Serre Chevalier a memorable one.
Serre Chevalier is popular in the winter for skiing and snowboarding and also popular in the summer for mountain biking, walking, rock climbing, kayaking and fishing.
Chalet Chez Bear reflects characteristics from its 17th century origin… open plan living area and original stone work, larch beams & rustic charm… an entrance hall, ski locker & drying area. The beautifully finished chalet bar features a wood burning pizza oven where much of the cuisine is prepared in front of our guests and the large dining area can seat up to 15 people to include extra dinner guests if required. The games area contains charming antique furniture and a selection of board games. The lounge is an excellent place to unwind with comfortable seating and large open fire. A writing bureau with full internet and email access is at your disposal. The home cinema in the vaulted cellars is a great place to watch your favourite film after having relaxed in the sauna.

Chalet Chez Bear
There is a huge open plan living area with original stone work and larch beams. This part of the chalet includes the entrance hall, ski locker and drying area. You can relax in the beautifully finished bar, which features a wood burning pizza oven where much of the cuisine is prepared in front of our guests. The large dining area can seat up to fifteen people to include extra dinner guests if required. The games area contains charming antique furniture and a selection of board games. With its cosy comfortable seating and large open fire, the lounge is an excellent place to unwind. A writing bureau with full internet and email access is at your disposal. The home cinema in the vaulted cellars is a great place to watch your favourite film after having relaxed in the sauna. Chalet Chez Bear has rightly gained a reputation for genuine home from home ambiance and we receive many repeat bookings for both summer and winter.
Resort extras are available at your request...Matthew and Helen will assist your needs with: Lift passes, ski hire, ski school, and creche. Transportation is available to & from the ski lift and visits to sports facilities such as ice rink, ice climbing and ice driving, leisure activities for non-skiers such as shopping,swimming pool, local apres ski and restaurants or a visit to the Casino etc.

Matthew and Helen
Matthew and Helen have traveled the world with varied experiences as accomplished, fun-loving and charming hosts. Matthew is an experienced chef who has spent much of his working life aboard luxury yachts, private jets & palaces. His career has included catering to the Royal, Rich & Famous, and Non-famous in between running pubs, restaurants & house renovations. Helen ran her own health salon, combining her skills as a personal trainer with toning and massage therapy. She is an experienced hostess, full of energy and is more than happy to massage après ski bumps and bruises! Helen is normally seen running up mountains or attempting a stage in the “Tour de France” on one of her bike rides (local nickname: “madwoman”). Helen’s enthusiasm for the outdoors and an active lifestyle is truly inspirational.
In 2001- Matthew & Helen decided to combine their creative talents & adoration of the Hautes Alpes region. They purchased a 17th century, 250-year-old Farmhouse (uninhabited for 50 years & reflecting the architecture of the Hautes Alpes) in Briancon-France. After 2 years of the odd splinter & pouring all heart & soul into the renovation and creation of Chez Bear, Mr. Bear nodded his approval and uttered his famous words “not bad”. Hence, the completion of a charming & beautiful, well appointed, luxury chalet. Chez Bear is filled with all the comforts of home and is located on a hilltop with south-facing, stunning views of the Durance Valley in Briancon-France. Haute Cuisine
All food and drink is completely your choice and catering is available for 10-12 guests. Matthew is delighted to discuss and produce menus for all occasions. Food & Drink are normally charged at cost price to provide customized menu selections. Your choice of a selected menu plan provides flexible options to dine in or out and to accommodate individual and personal tastes. Meal options range from Mountain Fayre to ye Olde English Traditional…Asian…Haute Cuisine…not to mention the numerous French wine selections available or the occasional bottle of Chateau Lafite…at an affordable price! Alternatively, a set menu is available @ 50 pounds sterling per person per week if preferred.

The chalet is situated above Briançon, the highest town in Europe, which is surrounded by a wealth of history and pre-Napoleonic fortifications. The “old town” is well worth a visit, with its craft shops and traditional restaurants. In the summer months you can discover the flora and fauna of the region by following the many fascinating walks and trails in the surrounding countryside and mountains.
A three minute drive will find you at the nearest ski lift connection. Briançon also boasts a brand new casino with full-on gambling facilities for those seeking further thrills! The town also has a good selection of bars and restaurants, although in our experience most of our guests find that the ambiance of Chez Bear takes a lot of beating.
Getting Around: Your package includes a host and hostess who will chauffeur you around the valleys to enjoy the full splendour of the area, foods & scenery. It our pleasure to take you to a chosen sporting or leisure activity or designated location of choice, and collect you at a mutually agreed time in the afternoon. The minibus provides transport for our guests to and from the ski areas and away-days can be arranged to nearby resorts i.e., in nearby Italy, a thirty minute drive away. (Turin is the venue for the 2006 Winter Olympics). In effect our guests always have a vehicle and driver at their disposal during the day and early evening.

Getting to Chalet Chez Bear
By CAR, TRAIN, COACH or PLANE…only 2 hours from Turin airport, 1.5 hours from Grenoble airport and 2.5 hours from Lyon airport. Matthew’s Renault Traffic is available for Private Transfers to & from nearby airports and is your “private” shuttle during your stay at Chez Bear.
