The website was created as a portal for owner-run chalets to advertise in direct competition with the alternative – the tour operators. As Chalet Group has grown to include some individuals who rent chalets (the same one year after year) and some who operate 2 or 3 chalets, we have maintained the one over-riding principle we started with, there are no tour operators on the website. There is no other website that does this, all the others have sold out to the corporate idea that bigger is better, that more listings and increased income is progress. On the Chalet Group website we have owner-run chalets and boutique chalet businesses and nothing else.

These owners are not detached from your holiday like the corporate tour operators. They are totally involved in every stage of your experience and they want to exceed your expectations. You will book direct with the owner and your whole holiday experience will be managed ‘hands-on’ by the owner. Enthusiastic owners take a passionate pride in the holidays they deliver. It’s their business after all.

The list if fundamental differences is endless, but here are just a few…

Booking: When you book a Chalet Group chalet, you talk direct to the owner and the services described are the ones they will provide. When you book a tour operator chalet you have to trust the marketing department has got their facts right and that human resources recruit staff capable of providing those services and the operations department actually tells the regional manager to tell the resort manager to tell your chalet girl what you have been promised in the first place.

Payment: When you pay for your Chalet Group chalet accommodation, you pay the business owner, who is also your host in resort. This has far reaching implications to your holiday, the way you are looked after and your relationship with your host. When you pay for your tour operator holiday, you pay the board of directors, the marketing department with all their magazine adverts and the sponsorship of the ski show, human resources and their need to recruit new staff every year and spend weeks training them in resort, you pay the parent company (probably in Germany) and, of course, you pay the shareholders their dividend.

Your host: In a Chalet Group chalet, your host has a vested interest in your happiness. Their business is dependent on you recommending them or returning to stay again next year so you will be well looked after. They are also in it for the long haul, they are professional hoteliers. In a tour operator chalet your host could be anyone they recruited this year. Most likely they will be “doing” their first season (80% of staff in major resorts are in their first season), they will be young, energetic and fun, they will be skiing, partying and dating, and in between, they will be looking after you.
